#19 "Country Joe & the Fish"

The Art
I thought this project would be a lot of fun, and I wanted to reflect that fun in the art. I wanted to make it whimsical, humorous, colorful, ornate, like that old style of carousel and carnival art. One thing I didn't want was to have it initially recognized as a submarine. That's no fun. At first all I saw when I walked by the unpainted sub was this big cowboy hat. And I had wanted to do something with a fish. But a fish wearing a cowboy hat? Too weird. But what if I put a cowboy under that big hat? Not so strange. A quick pencil sketch and simple as that - Cowboy Joe & The Fish. (Neither represents any living fish or person.) The little creatures scattered about were an afterthought, inspired by this honey bee that landed on my work in progress. And for all you old Hippies - there's nothing in common with my submarine and that 60's rock group but the name itself. Enjoy and have FUN.
