#17 "Max Marine"

The Art
Starting only with the concept of a whale - the theme the sponsor wanted - I began to visualize the work I was to create. I chose waves for suspending the whale in order to present a sense of motion and create a majestic image of the sea creature. The colors of the sea against the black and white whale contrast the piece and draw attention to the overall scene. The final touch was a working fountain which sprays water as the whale's blow hole.
- Carol Raccio
The Artist
Carol's passion for art began early in her life and is with no doubt present today. A self-taught artist from Orange, CT, she has studied with Charles Gruppe, Frank Cavino, Barbara Harder and Peter Ziou. She has served as vice-president of the Orange Arts Guild and was a charter member of the Fairfield Classical Artists Guild. Having explored drawing, oils, watercolor, portraiture, and print-making, Carol expresses her ideas in monotype prints, which capture illusionist visions of ancient places, as well as impressionistic oil paintings, in which color alone is critical. Carol's work is included in private and corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe.
