#7 "In Our Yellow Submarine"

The Art
Making "We All Live in a Yellow Submarine" was prompted by a sense of nostalgia. I can remember playing the Beatles' album on my grandfathers' hi-fi, my baby brother and little cousin dancing, while another cousin was off to Vietnam. Peter Maxx, psychedelic thoughts and imagery (for good or bad) were influencing our thinking and attitudes. Thiry years later one Beatle has been assassinated, "When I'm 64" doesn't seem too old and my brother's children dance to "All You Need is Love." I doubt that this song would make the charts today. The taste of a jaded society wouldn't buy it. But the yellow submarine is still a playful yet ominous image, stirring up thoughts of Magical Mystery Tours, adventure, exploration, war and tragedy (exemplified most recently by the disaster of the Russian submarine Kursk). Thirty years from now what will the "Nowhere Man" see?
