Serpentine Siren - Susan Reed
The Art - I chose the subject of my project, Serpentine Siren, because of the shape of the surface. I thought it was very feminine and hoped to capture a voluptuous sea maiden in the form. I had hoped that the snake wrapped languidly around her body would inspire intrigue... I thought it produced some racy imagery. I could not complete any of the work successfully until I decided to mimic the century-old art nouveau style. After studying a little and drinking a tremendous amount of coffee it all came together. I just hope someone else likes it. - Susan Reed
The Artist - A Mehndi artist, specializing in henna body art, Susan has been painting for less than two years. During that time, without formal training, she has created a portfolio of window art at a number of local businesses from Fairfield to Hartford and will begin taking courses this fall in graphic design.
