Shellebration - Meg Barone
The Art - Since I am best known for my eggshell mosaic art I had planned to use colored eggshells to create a mosaic of an underwater scene on my sub. But problems finding a suitable all-weather adhesive and the time constraints forced me to abandon that idea. Instead, staying with the concept of mosaics and wanting to honor Simon Lake with a nautical theme, I created a seashell "mosaic." I arranged the shells - some purchased, some collected from Florida, Massachusetts and, of course, Milford beaches - on pieces of fabric, adding glass beads, imitation pearls, buttons and other adornments. I also copied a photograph of Simon Lake from a book in the Milford Public Library and included the snapshot on my sub. - Meg Barone
